City blocks in Portland, especially downtown Portland, are some of the smallest in the United States. Downtown, many blocks are 200 feet square; in other inner neighborhoods, one dimension of each block is often 200 feet long.

The short city blocks have reduced the height of buildings in downtown, and also require TriMet's on-street MAX trains to have no more than two 100-foot cars.
