2010 Metro president election

The 2010 Metro president election between former Hillsboro mayor Tom Hughes and former 1,000 Friends of Oregon Executive Director Bob Stacey will determine the seat of the one full-time politician on the council of Metro, a regional agency that manages land use, transportation planning, garbage, and public places like the Oregon Zoo, Expo Center and Oregon Convention Center.
Because of Metro's land-use and transportation-planning authority (and its statutory authority to take control of TriMet from the state of Oregon), Metro's president has a strong influence on transportation in Portland.
After the third-place finish of Metro Councilor Rex Burkholder in the May primary, the nonpartisan runoff will put two candidates on the Nov. 2 ballot in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties.
