Transportation Options
From Portland Afoot
Transportation Options is a program by the Portland Bureau of Transportation that attempts to save money by reducing road congestion, mostly by increasing the percentage of trips in Portland taken without cars.
[edit] SmartTrips
SmartTrips is an individualized marketing program, part of Transportation Options, that delivers bike maps, walking maps, and transit information to residents and businesses in a given area. The program offers its personalized goody bag to new residents; to anyone who asks for it; and, each spring, to everyone in a given area of the city.
In 2011, SmartTrips plans to target residents of North Portland and Northeast Portland.
As of 2010, according to Options Manager Marni Glick, 9 to 15 percent of Portlanders who receive the packages respond in some way.
Each summer, SmartTrips offers the Ten-Toe Express and Women on Bikes programs.
