Sightline Institute
From PortlandAfoot
The Sightline Institute is a politically progressive think tank based in Seattle that specializes in using economics to analyze environmental and economic policy from the perspective of "sustainability." Its work is focused on the metro areas of Portland, Seattle and Vancouver BC.
The group, founded in 1993 by Alan Durning, was known as Northwest Environment Watch until 2006, after which point it began to add more research into social and economic inequality.
Among many initiatives, Sightline was an early advocate of carsharing, personal carsharing and pay-as-you-drive insurance. Sightline coined the phrase "green-collar jobs."
Among its major funders is the Bullitt Foundation.
