San Francisco
From PortlandAfoot
San Francisco is the first major metropolitan area south of Portland and in many ways a city with similar culture. Portlanders can get there on Amtrak's Coast Starlight train as well as a plane, Greyhound bus, or rideshare. Some people get there illegally by riding freight trains.
San Francisco's cable cars are one of the world's most famous public transportation systems. The San Francisco Bay area is also one of the world's entrepreneurship capitals, which has made it home to innovative services such as personal carsharing.
The metro area is one of the few that has more public transit trips per capita than Portland.
