Salem is the capital of Oregon and sits about 45 miles south of Portland. It is home to the CHERRIOTS public transit agency and also to Willamette University.

The easiest ways to reach Salem from Portland are Amtrak, which runs both trains and buses between Union Station and downtown Salem; or riding WES to Wilsonville, then riding one of Wilsonville's SMART express buses to Salem.
