Paratransit
From Portland Afoot
Paratransit is like a limited public taxi service for people with disabilities.
It refers to small buses, vans or cars used to transport people with disabilities (including temporary disabilities). They typically vary their route based on where the passenger is going.
The Americans with Disabilities Act requires public transit agencies to offer paratransit service to Americans who can't use the fixed-route transit system.
In the TriMet service area, TriMet's main paratransit service is called LIFT. In Vancouver, Wash., C-Tran's paratransit service is C-Van.
