I-205 MAX extension
From PortlandAfoot
The I-205 MAX extension, the fifth expansion of TriMet's light rail system, extended rails 6.5 miles along Interstate 205 from Gateway Transit Center to Clackamas Town Center and created the Green Line. It was split off from the longer South-North MAX extension that was originally intended to connect Clackamas County to Vancouver.
The northern half of the South-North MAX Extension became the Yellow Line; the remaining south corridor MAX extension was split into two phases, which became the I-205 extension and the proposed Portland-Milwaukie light rail project.
The I-205 project was overseen by Neil McFarlane, then TriMet's executive director for capital projects.
Most of the real estate used to build the line had been set aside for transit use when Interstate 205 was built in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
[edit] Funding
According to the TriMet publication "Livable Portland," 60 percent of the project's $575.7 million budget came from the federal government, with the remainder coming from Metro, the City of Portland, the Oregon Department of Transportation and TriMet.
