East Portland Media Equity Project
From Portland Afoot
The East Portland Media Equity Project is a partnership, launching in summer 2011, to improve low-car East Portlanders' access to news and civic information about public transportation.
It includes Portland Afoot, OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon, Impact Northwest and The Oregonian's Oregonian News Network, and was funded primarily by the Meyer Memorial Trust.
MMT's $5,000 grant to Portland in the Round, Portland Afoot's nonprofit publisher, will pay for:
- Distribution of a smaller, free, East Portland-specific version of Portland Afoot's monthly newsmagazine to 20 East Portland locations.
- Up to 200 subscriptions to our full print edition, offered by OPAL to people it organizes.
- A paid, part-time, three-month internship for a journalist to learn the ropes of modern niche reporting.
