Coast Starlight

From Portland Afoot

Jump to: navigation, search

The Coast Starlight is one of the two Amtrak lines that run north and south out of Portland's Union Station. The other is Amtrak Cascades. The line stops in Portland once every day on its way from Los Angeles to Seattle, and a second time on the way back.

The Coast Starlight's diner car was one of the first places to find wireless Internet on Amtrak and Greyhound.

In a piece about his midlife discovery of train travel, interior designer David Netto named the Coast Starlight as one of his three favorite routes on the Amtrak system.

He offered many bits of useful advice for long-distance, high-budget train travel.
