TriMet's 9-Powell/Broadway connects Gresham, SE Portland, Portland City Center and NE Portland, via Powell, 5th/6th, Broadway/Weidler, 24th and 27th.

The 9 is a frequent service route, meaning that during weekday morning and afternoon rush hour, buses run every 15 minutes or better.

At the time of Portland Afoot's 2011 TriMet bus rankings, the 9 was the third least-reliable frequent service line, with 38 percent of its buses arriving bunched, and the fourth most frequent midday bus.

The 9 was one of five bus routes targeted by OPAL, an environmental justice group that began organizing bus riders in 2009 and 2010.

[edit] Realignment plans

According to the final environmental impact statement for the Portland-Milwaukie light rail project, the 9 would by 2030 be realigned to loop through the South Waterfront and across the Willamette River Bridge on its way to SE Powell.

[edit] Candidate for restored service

In April 2011, TriMet managers named the 9 as a bus line that might get restored service in the fall. The one additional trip is scheduled to leave the Powell Garage for SW Sixth and Alder at 9:16 a.m.
