The case for neighborhood greenways, in one photo

The next mayor of Portland will face an important decision: Whether or not to call for cuts to a $900,000-a-year program that’s putting low-traffic “neighborhood greenways,” which are good for many sorts of activity including bike travel, within half a mile of 80% of Portland homes.

The Oregonian, among others, describes neighborhood greenways as “bike routes,” and it’s true that they’ve been very successful as bikeways. I wrote a thousand words this week about how it’s more complicated than that, but I think this photo from Northeast Davis Street last night basically says it all.
