Your guide to the TriMet cuts
It’s 12 days until TriMet’s five-cent fare increase and 16 days until TriMet’s fourth service cut in 12 months.
There’s no question that most TriMet riders are only vaguely aware of these changes, let alone why they’re happening.
I’ve begun making new improvements to our existing page on the TriMet cuts, where you can see exactly how many service hours are being cut from your bus line and get links to TriMet’s description of the cuts and other news coverage.
I’ve also greatly improved our page on OPAL, the energetic new activist group based in southeast Portland that has emerged as the loudest voice against the cuts and hikes. They plan a Sept. 1 “Rally for the Bus” to oppose the changes – and, as co-director Jon Ostar told me on Wednesday, to put pressure on TriMet to restore service and forestall future fare cuts.
“The next time they try to make cuts to bus-dependent communities,” Ostar said, “we can stop it.”
